Escritora de novelas detectivescas y dramaturga británica. En su primera novela,
El misterioso caso de Styles (
1920), estrenó a Hércules Poirot, excéntrico detective belga que protagonizaría otras 25 novelas. Otro personaje principal y también detective fue Miss Jane Marple, una solterona, que apareció por primera vez en
Muerte en la vicaría (1930). La mayoría de sus casi 75 novelas, como
Asesinato en el Orient-Express (
1933; película, 1978), fueron éxitos de ventas; traducidas a más de 100 idiomas, sus obras han vendido más de 100 millones de copias. Entre sus obras de teatro se destacan
La ratonera (1952), la cual estableció un récord mundial por el tiempo que estuvo en cartelera, y
Testigo de cargo (1953; película, 1958). Estuvo casada con el eminente arqueólogo Sir Max Mallowan (
n. 1904–m. 1978).
